Why the Alleged-UFO Photo-Blog?

When I was quite young, I had a fear of aliens.  I would sometimes meander through my local library’s section of dog-eared books on the subject of UFOs, partially because I hoped more familiarity with the subject would lead to dissolving that fear.  In these books, I found a cache of wonderful, grain-y and mysterious images. Like most childhood fears, I grew out of it.

In 2008, I graduated with my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography.  During my arts education, I became re-acquainted with photographs of UFOs, after searching for a few to use in one of my professor’s assignments.  I appreciated the images as an interesting mix of visual minimalism, inexplicable instances, post-war anxiety, and luckily, even some humor.

I’ve been quietly collecting images of UFOs since.  I’m curating them here in blog form for your enjoyment.  I also owe some inspiration to the Hüsker Dü song “Books About UFOs”.

This blog exists to explore forms of design in the photographs, not to take issue with the views of photographers or members of any community.

This blog also exists to acknowledge what I consider an iconic genre of photography.  In addition to the rich visuals, I will also explore the differences that have resulted since the arrival of the digital medium.
